Coronavirus pandemic makes me extend my contract with Chelsea – Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud, has said that the effects of the coronavirus pandemic across Europe influenced his decision to sign a new contract extension with the Blues.
The 33 years French almost left the Blues in January transfer but the Blues’ failure to find a replacement make him stay to honor us contract.
“I simply seized my opportunity and I repaid the faith that the manager had shown in me,” he told the club’s website”.
“That’s why the club ultimately offered me the chance to continue my time at Chelsea and I accepted immediately because I like it here. I want to keep winning trophies and I want to continue to show the manager that he can count on me” .
“Plus, with the whole coronavirus lockdown situation, I didn’t really feel comfortable with the idea of moving abroad and uprooting my family. I think a lot about our quality of life and we have a great setup here. I think a lot about my family now.”
The French International scored Chelsea’s last goal prior to the pandemic in the 4-0 win over Everton in March, said he was delighted to confirm his future.
Giroud told Chelsea’s official website: “I am delighted to continue my journey and adventure at Chelsea.
“I can’t wait to get back to playing and enjoying competitive football with my team-mates.
“I’m looking forward to wearing the Chelsea shirt again, especially in front of our fans at a full Stamford Bridge, whenever it is safe to do so.”
Premier league will return on June 17 this month after the coronavirus pandemic suspension and Oliver Giroud will be willing to continue with is form to help is club achieve their ambitions.
